Auditions for the UGA Ballroom Performance Group (BPG) are held at the end of each semester in April and November.  During the audition, leads and follows are asked to demonstrate knowledge of the basics of East Coast Swing, Cha Cha, and Waltz. Auditions are semi-formal dress.

Dancers may prepare for auditions by attending Friday Night Dance Party lessons, signing up for Ballroom Foundations I in the Dance Department (DANC 1607/1608), and/or attending classes and workshops offered in advance of the auditions. BPG members often volunteer time to assist dancers preparing for auditions. Membership in BPG is competitive, so dancers are encouraged to work hard in advance of the auditions to expand their knowledge and vocabulary.

Incoming BPG members enter into an apprentice class. The BPG Apprentice Group meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm to learn technique and performance skills. After a minimum of one semester training, Apprentices may become eligible to perform with the Ballroom Performance Group as principal members.

BPG members must be able to commit to practices every Monday and Wednesday night and attend Friday Night Dance Parties on the first and third Friday of each month. Additional practices and weekend rehearsals will be held in the weeks leading up to Ballroom Magic and other performances.

Interested UGA students may contact BPG ( for more information.
